Today’s car is 1906 Tourist, Model K Touring built by the Auto Vehicle Company of Los Angeles (1902-1910). This is the last car of the Frankel collection. Powered by 2 cylinder horizontally-opposed 196 cu in at 20 HP. It had twin drives a two-speed planetary gearbox, which sends power to the rear wheels via a chain-driven axle.
The Tourist is a relatively unknown marque today, but for a brief period before World War I, this was California’s most popular automobiles. Al purchased the car as a project in 1954. In 2004, Al began the process of restoring the Model K. I remember Al creating the body using what was left of the original body as his template. By 2007 Al had the body reunited with the frame. The Frankels initiated a complete, nut-and-bolt restoration with Jim Livings in Tucson, Arizona and the restoration was completed in 2012. Just 1 of a handful known surviving cars. This is an ideal car for Sunday driving tours at the Automobile Driving Museum (ADM) in El Segundo, CA. This is a very rare beautiful car. The asking price was $59,500.00.
