Today’s car is a 1962 Dodge Dart 440 Convertible owned by Larry & Marlene Kempton. I photographed this car at the Cruise At The Beach Classic Car Show, held at the Redondo Beach Marina, CA every Friday night through the summer. The car is finished in deep burgundy with black vinyl interior. black top and boot. It is powered by a 446 cu in, V8 engine, with twin Edelbrock 4bbl carburetors on a short ram manifold, mated to a 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission with 3.55 rear axle. Slowing this baby down are disc brakes upfront and drum brakes in the rear. The independent front suspension has torsion bars and the rear suspension has asymmetrical leaf springs.
The Production years for this initial series of Dodge Darts was 1960 – 1962. The total number of 1962 Dodges produced was 240,484, of those 111,500 were Darts, of those 37,800 were 440’s. The MSRP was $2,945.00.
This rare and desirable car must be seen to fully appreciate the restoration and the custom features that make this eye catch car incredible. What a great car take Mopar car shows, Cars and Coffee events or just a cruising to the beach top down of coarse. Thank you for riding along. Frank
