Our friend Peter Bashaw who lives in Australia contributes with cars and stories to Frank’s Cars in the Hood. Some of the articles are from his past when he lived here and some are now current from Australia. Todays are current from Australia.
“Good day”. My neighbor had a few of his mates show up and in all different years of Corvettes. In the years I have lived in Australia I have never seen this many Corvettes in one location. I compare it to the Vette Set Corvette Club get together that I photographed at Rubys in Redondo Beach, CA some years ago. Of coarse the mixture was different of C2 Corvettes on up that showed up here today. While taking these photos a Morris positioned itself between the two Corvettes that I was photographing and added a touch irony to Sunday morning motoring in Australia.
I think Peter is on to something. It is a southern hemisphere thing to have a Morris appear in a Corvette get-together. In the northern hemisphere, here in California, we park a few American cars among the British cars at a British car get togethers for the same effect. Some good friendly fun. Oh by the way not everyone has Corvettes or British cars, but still want to enjoy the cars and their friends.
Peter wrote one of the plates has “A HOON” on it. Then said “I will bet you can guess what that means”. Well, I did not know what a Hoon was so I had to look it up. The definition of a Hoon is: “A Hoon, in Australia and New Zealand, is a person who deliberately drives a vehicle in a reckless or dangerous manner, generally in order to provoke a reaction from onlookers. Hoon activities (or hooning) can include speeding, burnouts, doughnuts, or screeching tires.
As a follow up to Peters earlier comments on conversions from LHD to RHD from earlier posts. Peter points out to take a closer look and you will see a mixture of the two driver positions. It looks to me to be more left hand drive cars in this group. I asked Peter what are the regulations of converting a left hand drive car to a right hand car. He said that it varys from state to state. We might get more on this later.
This is a great collection of Corvettes and a Morris. It looked like a fun day. Thanks for sharing Peter.
Thanks for riding along. Frank
