Today’s car is a 1949 Nash 2-door sedan Ambassador Brougham that is owned by Richard Tupper. It is finished in Sunset Maroon Light. The front reclining twin bed travel seats are comfortable along with the rear theater type seat. The interior is covered in Gray and maroon strip fabric that adds a touch of elegance. I saw this car at Caffein Cruisers Cars and Coffee located in Torrance, CA. It is powered by a 234,8 cu in, 3.85 liter, OHV straight 6, with a Carter 1-bbl carburetor, producing 112 hp. Transferring that power to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission with an electric overdrive and delivering that power to the rear wheels through 4.10:1 rear end. Helping slow this baby down are hydraulic 10 inch drum brakes all around. The front independent suspension is parallel arm type and the car has coil springs at all four wheels and direct shocks protected within the coil springs.
It was produced by Nash – Kalvinator in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The original MSRP was $2,162.00 adding $246.84 for every option available took the price up to $2,408.84. The total number of 1949 Nash’s produced was 130,000 of which 807 were produced as Brouhgam 2-door sedan / 5 passenger cars. This is a an amazing example of 1949 Nash. Everything about this car is sure to draw a crowd especially the twin bed arrangement and the optional special mattresses show in there original packaging.
