Today’s car is a 1955 Oldsmobile Super 88 Convertible owned by Alvin Benard. It is finished in Coral and Polar White with a Red and White interior and white convertible top & boot. I saw this car at Ladera Mid-city Cars and Coffee. It is powered by a 324cu in, 5.3 liter V8, with a Rochester 4GC Quadra-Jet 4-bbl carburetor, producing 240 hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed Hydra-matic automatic transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through 3.42 to 1 rear end. Helping slow this baby down are hydraulic drum brakes all around. The front suspension is independent with coil springs and in the rear is live axle with semi-elliptical springs. The original MSRP was $2,894.00. The total number of 1955 Oldsmobiles produced was 583,179 of which 242,198 were Super 88’s and only 9,007 were convertibles
This is a significant example of second generation Super 88 Convertible, This is a great car for car shows, and Cars and Coffee events, or just cruising around town. Thanks for riding along. Frank
