Today’s car is a 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Special Edition. It is finished in Starlight Black with the special edition firebird decal on the hood, and a Black interior. The car was ordered and owned by Steven and Linda Moy, from Pennsylvania, and remained with them until they recently gave the car to their son, Steven, for his 30th birthday. The car has 6,000 original miles on the odometer! It is powered by a 400 cu in, 6.6 liter, V8 with a Rochester Quadrajet 4-bbl carburetor, producing 220 hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through an 3.23 to 1 gear ratio. Helping slow this baby down are power disc brakes all around. The front suspension includes anti-roll bar, coil springs, independent, wishbone and the rear suspension has anti-roll bar, live axle, semi-elliptic leaf springs. This car is equipped with the WS6 suspension package which includes special springs and shock absorbers, stiffer suspension bushings, a constant-ratio steering box, a larger rear sway bar, and the iconic 15×8-inch aluminum Snowflake wheels. The original MSRP was $8,028.00 The total number of 1979 Firebirds produced was 117,108 of which 1,107 were Pontiac Firebird Trans Am SE with manual transmissions.
This is a beautiful original Firebird. The silver and red Firebird on the hood is eye catching and exactly what what Steven wanted when he ordered the car. He did not want the Smokey and the Bandit look with the gold Firebird on the hood. This is a great car for car shows and Cars and Coffee events and weekend runs up and down the coast. Thanks for riding along. Frank
