Today’s car is a 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette owned by Marvin Cutchins. The Series 62 was produced by Cadillac from 1940 through 1964. The small fin on the rear fender was inspired by the Lockheed’s P-38 Lighting. Cadillac in their 1949 brochure claimed that “The 1949 Cadillac was the world’s most distinguished motor car”. I tend to agree, very sleek.
This series 62 is finished in Black with a Tan and Brown interior. It is powered by the, then new, Cadillac 331 cu in, overhead valve V8 engine with a single 2 bbl carburetor producing 160 hp. Transferring that power through a 4 speed Hydra-Matic transmission. Delivering that power to the rear wheels through 3.77 to 1 rear end gear ratio. The front suspension was coil springs and in the rear was a live axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs. The brakes were hydraulic with 12 inch drums all around.
The original MSRP was $2,965.00. The total number of 1949 Cadillacs produced was 92,544 of which 55,643 were Series 62 and 7,515 of those were Club Coupes. I truly like the lines of the 2 door coupe.
