Today’s car is a 1957 Pontiac Bonneville fuel injected Convertible. It is finished in Kenya Ivory with Tartan Red side spears over a Red and White vinyl interior with a White convertible top & Red boot, The owner of this car is Tim Lappen and I saw this car at Caffeine Cruisers in Torrance. It is powered by a 347 cu in, 5.68 liter, with a Rochester mechanical fuel injected V8 engine that produces 315 hp. It transfers that power through a Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission and that power is delivered to a live rear axle with 3.23 to 1 gear ratio, sprung with semi-elliptic leaf springs. Independent front suspension with coil springs and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes.
The original MSRP was $5,782.00. It was $1,000 more than a fuel-injected Corvette. The total number of 1957 Pontiacs produced was 333,473 of which 12,789 were Star Chief convertibles and only 630 Bonneville Convertibles were built, all of them fuel injected, one for each of its 630 dealers. All but 12 of the cars were painted Kenya Ivory with either red or blue trim. Only 8 cars were finished in charcoal grey with matching leather interiors accented in white. 0–60 mph time of 8.1 seconds and top speed is 101.6 mph.
