1957 Buick Special Covertible

Todays car is a 1957 Buick Special (Series 40) Convertible and It is finished in Bittersweet red, with a all-Cordaveen (Buicks name for Vinyl) red interior accented with black and a red convertible boot. I saw this car at “Cruise at the Beach” which is located at 245 North Harbor Dr. Redondo Beach Marina on Fridays from 3-6:30 PM. This show continues on Fridays until August 27th, 2021.

It is powered by a 364 cu in, 5.96 liter V8 engine producing 250 hp with a Stromberg two-barrel carburetor and a 9.5:1 compression ratio and transferring that power through the new variable pitch Dynaflow 2 – speed automatic transmission. Delivering that power to the rear wheels through a 2 piece torque tube drive shaft to the rear end with a set of 3.07 t0 1 gear. To slow this convertible down are power hydraulic drum brakes with a mechanical parking brake. It has ball joint front suspension with coil springs front and rear. The original MSRP was $2987.00. The total number of 1957 Buicks produced was 405,098. Earning Buick its 4th place in American automobile sales rankings in 1957. 8,505 of those 405,098 were built as Special convertibles.

Very clean and eye catching restoration. Thanks for riding along. Frank

Check out the Big Bug (1.4 scale) and the Henry J in the back ground.
