Todays car is a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2 door sedan and it is finished in a two tone combination of Dusk Rose and Shoreline Beige with a matching interior. This beauty is owned by Gene Smith. It is powered by a 265 cu in, 4.3 liter, V8 engine with a Rochester 2 barrel carburetor and it is producing 162 hp. It transferring that power through a 3 speed manual transmission with the optional overdrive. Delivering that power to the rear wheels through 4.11 t0 1 rear end gear ratio. which was the standard for 3 speed manual with overdrive transmissions. Out of the 1,775,952 1955 Chevrolets that were built only 168,826 were Bel Air 2 door sedans. This car also has optional power steering.
Gene’s friend John’s brother was given the car after it was in a wreck and the front end was damaged. It was parked in the back yard for some 30 years with the front end clip missing. it was one of those projects that they never got to and lucky for Gene it was time for them to part ways with the 55. Gene was offered the car and looked it over. The body seemed rust free and was very straight. So Gene spend the next 15 years gathering parts and restoring the car. You are looking at its maiden voyage to Caffeine Cruisers in Torrance, CA that meets every Saturday from 7-9AM.
This a great original restoration with a great color combination. It is ready for car shows, coffee and cars circuit or just a cruise alone the beach. Thanks for riding along. Frank
