Today’s vehicle is a 1947 Crosley 1/4 Ton Pickup truck owned by Chuck Mills that I photographed at the Manhattan Beach Cars & Coffee located at The Point, in El Segundo, CA. The car is finished in a highly patinated Gem Blue with Chinese Red wheels and a gray interior. It is powered by a 26.5 hp, 44 cu in, in line 4 cylinder engine, with single barrel Tillotson carburetor mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with 5.17 rear axle. Slowing this baby down are mechanical drum brakes in all 4-corners. The front suspension is solid axle with semi-elliptical leaf springs and the rear suspension is a live axle with 1/4 elliptical leaf springs.
The Crosley Model CC were built from 1946 to 1948. The model CC referred to unique series of serial numbers starting with CC. The CC models production include all the standard models such as Station Wagon, Sedan, Convertible, Panel Delivery and Pickup trucks. The total production of model CCs were 59,103 units of those 22,526 were built in 1947 and of those 3,182 were pickup trucks. The MSRP was $933.00. The published top speed of 50 MPH with a 0-60 mph time of 45.7Seconds.
While most people have never seen a Crosley this is a unique and rare truck with its great patina that draws a crowd. As the hood badge says A Fine Car to take to orphan car shows, Cars and Coffee events or just a cruising from event to event with like minded friends. Thank you for riding along. Frank
