Today’s car is a 1937 Chevrolet Master Business Coupe owned by Vergel Sandifer. I photographed this car at Net Cruze’s Cars and Coffee held at the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum located in El Segundo, CA. It is finished in Dove Gray with a vinyl two-tone gray Interior, the front seat is the original car seat. It is powered by a 450 hp, 383 cu in stroker Chevrolet V8 engine, with a Holley 4-bbl carburetor and mated to a GM 700R4, 4-speed automatic transmission which features a 30% overdrive in forth gear with 3.56:1 rear end. Slowing this baby down are disc up front and drums in the rear. It has a Mustang II front end with rack and pinion steering and in the rear is a Ford 9″ Curry rear end with longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs. Vergel has added some creature comforts such as Power steering, air conditioning and a heater.
In 1937, Chevrolet offered both the new Master and Master Deluxe Series. The total 0f 815,375 Chevrolets were produced of which 296,357 were Masters of those 54,683 were the Master Coupe. The MSRP was $618.00. With a published top speed of 80 mph and a cruising speed of 70 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 17 seconds.
