Today’s car is a 1956 Volkswagen Beetle, oval window, owned by Jeff Godin. I photographed this car at The Air Cooled Volkswagen Car Show held at The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum located in El Segundo, CA. It is finished in Coral Red with a Beige Vinyl Interior. It is powered by a 36 hp, 1.2 liter, air cooled flat 4 engine, with a single Solex 28 PCI carburetor. Mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with 4.38:1 rear axle gear ratio. Slowing this baby down are drum hydraulic brakes in all 4-corners. The front suspension is Kingpins with transverse torsion bars and upper/lower trailing arms and in the rear is swing axles with trailing arms and torsion bars
The VW Beetle was produce worldwide from 1938 to 2003 with a total 0f 21,529,464 being produced with 333,190 of them being 1956’s. The MSRP was $1,495.00. With a published top speed of 77 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 28.8 seconds and the quarter mile time of 23.6 seconds. This is a beautiful example of an original restored 1956 Volkswagen in the postwar era. What a great car to take to Volkswagen car shows, Cars and Coffee events, or just cruising around town. Thanks for riding along. Frank
