Today’s car is a 1958 Pontiac Chieftain 2 door sedan owned by Mike Green. I photographed this car at the Caffeine Cruisers get together located in Torrance, CA. It is finished in two tone Squadron Blue and Patina Ivory with a two tone blue and gray with silver interior. It is powered by a 300 hp, 370 cu in, OHV V8 with 3-2bbl Rochester carburetors. Mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with a 3.42:1 rear axle. Slowing this beauty down are 12 inch drums up front and 11 inch drums in the rear. It has independent front suspension with upper and lower control arms with coil springs and in the rear are pivoted control arms with coil springs.
1958 marked General Motors 50 anniversary!!! The total number 0f 1958 Pontiacs produced was 216,982 units with 121,460 of them being Chieftains of those 17,394 being 2 door sedans. The MSRP was $2,573.00. The published top speed of 129 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds. This is a beautiful example of a correctly restored original factory performance car. What a great car to take to Pontiac get togethers, GM car shows, Cars and Coffee events or just a cruising around town and meeting up with like minded car buddies for breakfast. Thanks for riding along. Frank
