Today’s car is a 1971 Chevrolet El Camino owned by Ken Thompson. I photographed this car at Marina del Rey Cars and Coffee located at 4724 1/2 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, CA that meets from 7-9 AM every Sunday. It is finished in red with a red leather interior. His interior was done by the legendary upholsterer Wanda of Wanda’s Auto Upholstery, located in Hemet, CA. It is powered by a GM LS3 V8 that develops 430 hp, with 376 cu in, and Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) that is mated to a GM 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and converting that power through a Chevrolet 12 bolt reared with 3.73:1 gears. Slowing this beauty down is a Hydropower brake booster with Willwood master cylinder and CPP Big Brakes disc in all 4-corners. It has independent front suspension with dual A-arms with coil over shocks and the rear suspension has control arms with coil over shocks to round things out.
The total number 0f 1971 El Camino’s produced were 41,606. The base price was $2,267.00. This is a beautiful customized El Camino. What a great car to take to a Chevrolet, GM or a custom car show and Cars and Coffee events. Cruising around town or up the coast with his buddies is great but, Ken rather take his road cars on a road trip. Thank you for riding along. Frank
