Today’s car is a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad owned by Ken Thompson. I photographed his car at Net Cruz’s Cars and Coffee. It is finished in a two-tone combination of Bluepurple and white, with a gray Interior. It is powered by a 550 hp, 376 cu in, GM LSX376 crate engine, with a Magnuson supercharger that is mated to a GM 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and converting that power through a Chevrolet 12 bolt reared with 3.55:1 gears. Slowing this beauty down are wilwood disc brakes in all 4-corners. It has Independent front suspension with dual A-arms with coil over shocks and the rear suspension has longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs with coil over shocks
The total 0f 1956 Chevrolets produced were 1,621,004 units with 699,053 of the being Bel Airs and of those 6,264 of them being Nomad Station Wagons. The MSRP was $2,571.00.
This is a beautiful customized 1956 Nomad Station Wagon that did not miss and detail. but, what really makes it stand out is that amazing color. What a great car to take to a Tri-Five, Chevrolet, GM or a custom car show. It is a big hit at Cars and Coffee events. Cruising around town or up the coast is fine but, Ken considers his cars as road cars and he is already planning his next long distance car show.
