1939 Ford Deluxe Woody Wagon

Last updated on April 10, 2023

Today’s car is a 1939 Ford Deluxe Woody Wagon owned by Terry Cramer. I photographed this car at Caffeine Cruisers located in Torrance, CA. It is finished in Jefferson blue with a burgundy leather interior and a Navy blue vinyl top.It is powered by a 100 hp, 274 cu in, flat head V8, with twin 2 bbl Holley carburetors, Offenhauser heads and Fenton headers. It is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with 3.54:1 rear axle ratio. Slowing this beauty down is the first year Ford introduced hydraulic brakes with large 12 inch drum brakes in all 4-corners. The suspension is a solid front axle with a transverse leaf spring and in the rear is a semi-floating axle with transverse leaf spring.

Changes between 1939 and 1940 Ford DeLuxe woodies extend well beyond their grille, hood, and the new sealed beam headlights. The the biggest change and the most noticeable is the doors, the 1939 body uses rear suicide doors while the 1940 doors are conventional opening doors. The total number 0f 1939 Fords produced was 487,031 units with 6,155 of them being Deluxe Woody Wagons. The MSRP was $916.00.

This is a beautiful original car with some subtle and tasteful modifications. What a fun car to take to a Woody, Ford or FOMOCO car shows, It will be a big hit at Cars & Coffee events and what a pleasure it would be just cruise in around town or down to the beach. Thanks for riding along. Frank
