1966 Jaguar S-Type Saloon

Last updated on February 28, 2023

Today’s car is a 1966 Jaguar S-Type Saloon (is British-ese for sedan) owned by Bob McCall who recently purchased it in September. This is a street spot that I photographed in our Westchester, CA “Hood”. It is finished in Old English White with a Black Leather interior. It is powered by a 220 hp, 231 cu in, DOHC In line 6 cylinder, with 2-1bbl SU HD6 carburetors mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive with a final drive of 3.77:1 or when in overdrive 2.93:1. Slowing this baby down are Dunlop bridge type disc brakes. The front suspension is independent with wishbones, coil springs, shock absorbers, and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension is fully independent with lower wishbones, radius arms, twin coil springs with shock absorbers.

The S-Type was produced from 1963 to 1969 with a total production of 23,985 of witch 6,260 units were produced in 1966. The MSRP was $5,786.00. Published top speed was 122 mph with a 0 – 60 time of 10.2 seconds. This is a great project and addition to the neighborhood. It will be great fun driving it to British car shows, Car and Coffee events, or just a cruise with like minded friends to your favorite breakfast spot. Thanks for riding along. Frank
