Today’s car is a 1959 AMC Rambler American Super 2 door sedan owned by Scott Seidlin. I photographed this car at Marina del Rey Cars & Coffee located between Fiji Way and Mindanao Way on 4724 1/2 Admiralty Way Los Angeles, CA. It is finished in a 2 tone combination of Green with a Black top with a black interior. It is powered by a 90 hp, 195.6 cu in, L Head 6 cylinder, with a 1-bbl Carter carburetor. It is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive with a 3.71:1 rear axle. Slowing this baby down are 9 inch diameter drum brakes all around. It has independent front suspension using the spring-over-knuckle system and the rear suspension is longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs with shock absorber in all 4-corners. The continental kit is a rare find and a nice addition.
The 1959 AMC Rambler sales tripled in production to a total production of 91,491 units with 28,449 of them being 2-door sedans Supers. The MSRP was $1,320.00. The published top speed is 88 mph with a 0 – 60 time of 16.7 seconds. This is an infrequently seen car with the cute factor that will draw attention to it at car shows and Cars and Coffee events and receives plenty of 👍 when cruising around town. Thanks for riding along. Frank
