Today’s truck is a 2022 Rivian R1T Launch Edition with an extended cab and it is owned by Matt. It is finished in Glacier White with a Mountain Black interior. This is a street spot parked in front of our neighbors house. I was taken aback by its good looks. I especially like the front end with those cool looking lights. I have since seen one finished in Rivian Blue and I was not intrigued. The Launch Edition comes with the Quad-Motor AWD along with the large battery pack. According to the manufactures specs the motors develop 835 hp with a 0-60 in time of 3 seconds and top speed of 124.9 mph. The quad-motor setup allows it to do what Rivian calls a “Tank Turn”, which sets the electric motors to rotate the left wheels in the opposite direction of the right ones to spin the truck on its axis. Wow, I want to see that. Slowing this 7,148 pound beast down are ventilated disc brakes. The front suspension is independent double wishbone air suspension. The rear suspension is independent multilink air suspension. The ride height varies from a ground clearance of 7.9 to 14.9 inches. The original MSRP is $75,000.00 for the Launch Edition according to their web site. Rivian currently had about 83,000 preorders but, due to persistent supply issues, they are now anticipating a total production of 25,000 trucks for 2022.
This is a great looking truck that has been recently showing up at local Cars and Coffee gatherings. I believe that is because they are headquarters in Irvine, CA. With its good looks and the great deal of attention aimed at electric vehicles today they tend to draw their fair share of attention. According to there advertising “A truck built for whatever you call a road”. Thanks for riding along. Frank
