Today’s truck is a 1990 Dodge Dakota Pickup Convertible 4X4. Yes, you read that right, a convertible pickup truck. The Dodge Dakota convertible was built in partnership with American Sunroof Corporation (ASC). It is finished in Black and Gold pinstriping with a Light Brown custom interior and Black convertible top. The owner of this truck is Skip Vaughn. I saw this car at Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum at the Muscle Car Show. It is powered by a 239 cu in, 3.9 liter, V6, with electronic fuel injection (EFI), producing 125 hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and delivering that power to the wheels through 3.55 to 1 gear ratio. Helping slow it down are power brakes with discs in the front and ABS drums in the rear. The front suspension is torsion-bar and semi-elliptical springs in the rear. The original MSRP was $18,560.00. The total number of 1990 Dodge Dakota Pickup Convertible’s produced was 909 of which 300 were 4X4’s.
While this mildly custom truck is bit of an oddball it is a rare oddball. I have to admit, I have never seen one before and think it is very cool to have a convertible pickup truck. This is a great truck for shows and Cars and Coffee gatherings and It draws a lot of attention. Thanks for riding along. Frank
