Today’s car is a 1989 Nissan Pao owned by Jonathan Lucero founder and CEO of Bayside. I photographed this car at Net Cruze Cars and Coffee held at the Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum located in El Segundo, CA. The car is finished in aqua gray with a custom interior using a tan tweed from the Figaro Shop located in the UK. It is powered by a 51 hp, 1.0 liter, in-line, 4-cylinder OHC engine, with an electronic controlled single barrel carburetor mated to a three speed automatic transmission with 3.89:1 rear axle. Slowing this beauty down are Disc brakes up front and drums in the rear. The front independent suspension consists of adjustable coil springs with struts. The rear suspension is 4-links and adjustable coil springs.
This car is equipped with an optional fabric sunroof and comes with standard equipment that includes power steering, intermittent wipers, radio and tape deck, height-adjustable driver’s seat, tensionless Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seat belts (front seats only), and an electromagnetic glass hatch release.
The Nissan Pao’s were built from 1989 to 1991 with the total production of 31,352, of those 16,900 of them were painted Aqua Gray and 24,912 of them had automatic transmissions. The MSRP was $ 10,500.00. The published top speed of 80MPH with a 0-60 mph time of 18.5 Seconds.
The term Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) originally represented cars that were primarily sold in Japan, but it has come to mean any high-performance Japanese models in an ever growing market. What a great example of a JDM to take to Japanese car shows, JDM events, and Nissan Festivals (Nissfest) events, Cars and Coffee events or just a cruising from show to show with like minded friends. Thank you for riding along. Frank
