Today’s vehicle is a 1974 Ford Bronco built by Agaso Outdoor. I photographed this “Best in Show” winner at Santa Monica Police Officers Association (SMPOA) Classic Car Show which was held on the Santa Monica Pier. This full custom is a frame-off build with numerous upgrades. Every piece of the truck is new or reconditioned. It is finished in the factory Bold Orange, a one year only color, while the interior features matching leather with wool plaid inserts, and warm brown color German square weave carpet.
It is powered by a custom built and blueprinted, all aluminum 410 hp, 328 cubic inch small block Ford V8, with Edelbrock multi port fuel injection and a custom cam profile. It is mated Ford 4R70W 4-speed automatic over drive (AOD) transmission backed by the original Dana 20 front wheel drive transfer case and full custom axles running 4.10 gears through a Ford 9″ rear end. The Heavy duty suspension works with modern disc brakes in all four corners and hydro boost power assist. The electrical system is all custom powering separate cooling systems for both the engine and transmission. The truck externally looks pretty much stock, but has subtle features that seamlessly blend in; like the wheels are CNC aluminum 17” wheels, wrapped in BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, made to look like factory steel wheels.
The first generation Ford Bronco’s were produced from 1966 to 1977 for a total of 225,585 units with 25,824 being built in 1974. Only 805 of those were painted in Bold Orange. The original base price was $4394 and the option list grew throughout the series so by 1977, most featured V8 engines, automatic transmissions as well as power steering and brakes. Although, air conditioning was never offered from Ford it was only possible through dealer installed units. This is a beautiful example of what a bespoke vehicle represents. In this case building a modernized Ford 4X4 Bronco with Agaso Outdoor’s vast experience and knowledge and then personalizing it to their customers requirements.
This is an amazing full custom Ford Bronco that has upgraded every system to todays standards, making it more reliable than original and tastefully put altogether. Normally, I would say what a great vehicle this is to take to a car show, but in this case while August was checking out the Bronco by driving it he brought it to the SMPOA Classic Car show and won the coveted Best in Show award. So, I can say with out hesitation “what a great vehicle to take to car shows”, Cars & Coffee events, or just going off road with some like minded friends. Thank you for riding along. Frank
