Today’s car is a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Gran Coupe owned by Rip Masters. Rip is the second owner since 1998. It is finished in Lemon Twist Yellow with a Black vinyl top, with a Black interior and a Shaker hood. I saw this car at Caffein Cruisers Cars and Coffee located in Torrance, CA. It is powered by a 408 cu in stroker, 6.68 liter V8, with a Carter 4 bbl carburetor, producing 470 hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through a Sure Grip limited slip rear end with a 3.55 to 1 gear ratio. Helping slow it down are disc brakes. The front suspension is independent with torsion bars, a sway bar and in rear is asymmetrical semi-elliptical leaf springs. The car came fully optioned with air condition, power steering, power disc brakes, Rambo steering wheel, six way power seats, luggage rack and rally wheels. The original MSRP was $3,029. The total number of 1971 Plymouth Barracuda produced was 16,492 of which 1,331 were Gran Coupe’s.
This is a very nice example of a third generation Barracuda Gran Coupe, This is a great car for this Mopar car shows, and Cars and Coffee events, or just cruising around town. Thanks for riding along. Frank
