1967 Plymouth Valiant

Last updated on July 3, 2024

Today’s car is a 1967 Plymouth Valiant 2 Door Sedan owned by Keith Newmeyer who bought the car from the original owner, Barrett Taft. Taft special ordered the car and worked where it was built at the Hamtramck Plant Detroit, MI. I photographed this car at Caffeine Cruisers located at Westgate Shopping Mall in Torrance, CA. The car is finished in dark blue metallic with a dark blue metallic vinyl interior. It is powered by a 180 hp, 273 cu in, V8 engine, with a Carter single 2bbl carburetor mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with 3.23:1 rear axle. Slowing this beauty down are 10 inch drum brakes in all 4 corners. The independent front suspension is equipped with heavy duty torsion bars and sway bar. The rear suspension is semi-elliptical leaf springs with firm ride shocks in all 4 corners.

The 3rd generation Valiants were built from 1967–1973 with a total of 1,583,360 built of which 108,969 were 1967s. The MSRP for this car as optioned is $2,703.80. The published top speed of 109 MPH with a 0-60 mph time of 9.5 Seconds.

What a great original car to take to Mopar car shows, Cars and Coffee events or just a cruising with a few like minded friend for a run up the coast. Thank you for riding along. Frank

I love that the additional cost to upgrade 4 standard shock absorbers to 4 firm ride shock ($3.25) tha cost less than the lock for the glove box ($3.95)!
