Today’s car is a 1964 Dodge Dart GT Convertible and it is owned by Phil Caliva. Yes, the former Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) and Formula Super Vee race car driver. I saw this car at the Endless Summer Car Show held in Hermosa Beach, CA. It is finished in Medium Turquoise Iridescent with a Blue vinyl interior and boot with a black convertible top. It is powered by a 180 hp, V8 with 273 cu in, 4.5 liter, with a Carter 2-bbl carburetor. Transferring that power to the rear wheels through a push button 3-speed Torqueflite automatic transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through 2.93:1 rear end. Helping slow this baby down are self adjusting hydraulic drum brakes all around. The front suspension is independent with torsion bars and ball joints and in the rear are asymmetrical longitudinal leaf springs with Oriflow shock absorbers at each wheel.
The original MSRP was $2,536.00. There were 194,200 1964 Dodge Darts produced in 1964, of those 23,100 were convertibles and of those 2,130 were GT’s with the 270 cu in engines. The top speed was 108 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 10.5 seconds. This is the best looking Dodge Dart I have ever seen. It will be a trophy getter at the Mopar car shows. This car draws an instant crowd at Cars and Coffee events, or just parked down by the beach. Thanks for riding along. Frank
