Today’s car is a 1961 Volkswagen Beetle with a Sunroof owned by Ana Aguilar and Ron Godin for the last 4 years. I photographed this car at The Air Cooled Volkswagen Car Show held at The Zimmerman Automobile Driving Museum located in El Segundo, CA. It is finished in Beryl Green with a combo green vinyl interior and green sunroof. It is powered by a 40 hp, 1.2 liter, air cooled flat 4 engine, with a single down draft Solex 28 PCIT carburetor. Mated to a fully synchronized 4-speed manual transmission with 4.38:1 rear axle gear ratio. Slowing this baby down are drum hydraulic brakes in all 4-corners. The front suspension is independent through equal upper and lower trailing arms, transverse torsion bars and an anti-sway bar. The rear suspension is independent through swing axles with trailing arms and torsion bars.
The VW Beetle was produce worldwide from 1938 to 2003 with a total 0f 21,529,464 being produced with 827,850 of them being in 1961. On December 4, 1961, marked the five-millionth Type 1 sedan that rolled off the assembly line in Wolfsburg, Germany. The MSRP was $1,655. It had a published top speed of 70 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 22 seconds This is a beautiful example of an original restored 1961 Volkswagen. What a great car to take to VW or European car shows, Cars & Coffee events, or just cruising with like mind friends. Thanks for riding along. Frank
