Today’s car is a 1958 Chevrolet Impala Convertible and is a revised/revisit of one of Richard Garcia’s cars. I have added some updated photos and rewrote the article.
It is finished in Onyx Black with a Turquoise/Silver/Black interior with a Black convertible top and boot. It is powered by a 250 hp, 348 cu in, 5.7 Liter, V8 with a Rochester 4-bbl carburetor. It transfers that power to the rear wheels through a rare 3-speed Turboglide automatic transmission and then to the rear axle which has a 3:55:1 final gear ratio. Helping slow this beauty down are 12 inch cast iron and steel drum brakes. The independent front suspension is knee action with coil springs and shock absorbers with a front stabilizer. In the rear are coil springs and shock absorbers.
The MSRP for a Impala convertible was $2,841.00. Total Chevrolet production for 1958 was 1,217,047 units with 55,989 of those being Impala convertibles. The published top speed was 110 mph with a 0–60 mph time of 8.8 seconds. Richard has an amazing collection of cars tucked away. This one is a great original car that would do great at an all GM and Chevrolet Car Shows, Coffee and Car events, or just cruising to the park or beach for a for a family picnic.. Thanks for riding along. Frank
