1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham

Last updated on November 26, 2025

Today’s car is a 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham owned by Melanie and Randy Hane, which I photographed at Killer Shrimp’s “Killer Rides 2025” Car Show at their Marina del Rey, CA location. The car is finished in Argyle Blue with a distinctive brushed stainless-steel roof and features a light and dark gray leather interior with blue chinchilla carpeting. It is powered by a 335-horsepower, 365 cubic inch OHV V8 engine equipped with dual Carter WCFB 4-barrel carburetors, mated to a Jetaway 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and a 3.36:1 rear axle ratio. Slowing this beauty down are four-wheel hydraulic power drum brakes. While the original fully independent air suspension has been replaced with coil springs and standard shocks, the car still rides on its original independent front suspension with short/long A-arms and a live rear axle with trailing arms. Advanced Features: Included air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, power brakes, and an automatic headlight dimmer.

The full set of luxury vanity items, as originally offered, is included. The car’s promise of luxury was reflected in its glovebox vanity set, featuring a magnetic tray for metal tumblers and a spill-proof Lanvin atomizer holding Arpège perfume—a collection of luxury personal accessories thoughtfully tailored for both men and women.

Space Age Convenience – The 1957–1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was one of the most advanced and exclusive cars of its time, blending cutting-edge technology with bespoke craftsmanship. Its power-operated features gave owners a sense of futuristic control—technology that felt just shy of the rockets launching America into the Space Age. Designed under the legendary Harley Earl, with styling by Ed Glowacke’s Cadillac team, the Brougham featured bold elements like chrome bullet bumpers, a brushed stainless-steel roof, and jewel-like trim. Beneath its sleek body, Cadillac engineers equipped it with a Jetaway Hydra-Matic transmission, air suspension, dual Carter 4-barrel carburetors, and luxury features like memory seats, an automatic trunk closer, and the iconic glovebox vanity set. Each Brougham was hand-built by Fleetwood, showcasing Cadillac’s peak commitment to innovation and luxuriousness.

The Cadillac Eldorado Brougham was produced from 1957–1958, with a total of 704 units produced 304 of them in 1958—making it one of the rarest Cadillacs ever built. With an MSRP of $13,074.00, it was one of the most expensive cars of its time, and Cadillac reportedly lost money on each sale. Despite its nearly 3-ton weight, the Brougham could hit 0–60 mph in about 11 seconds and reach a top speed of around 115 mph—remarkable for a luxury car of its time.

This particular 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham has a distinguished ownership history, including TV personality Mary Tyler Moore, Arron Weiss, and David Hearst Jr. of the Hearst publishing family, and currently, it is owned by Melanie and Randy. The car was meticulously restored by Arron Weiss with the expert help of Harry Nicks of Nicks Old Cars in Redlands, CA, completing the restoration in March 2003. While the original air-ride suspension has been removed, the rest of the vehicle has been returned to its authentic, showroom condition. Since its restoration, this Eldorado Brougham has earned top honors at prestigious Concours d’Elegance events, winning 1st place in its class at Huntington Beach, Thousand Oaks, and Hillsborough. It also took home the coveted “Most Elegant” award at Palos Verdes.

This well-preserved, rare Eldorado Brougham stands as a quiet reminder of a time when style, comfort, and innovation defined the American luxury car. It’s the kind of vehicle that fits right in at a Concours d’Elegance, Cadillac/GM car shows, or local Cars & Coffee events, and you might even spot it on a Friday night at the “Cruise at the Beach” gathering in Redondo Beach, CA. Still cruising, and still captivating.

Thanks for riding along.
