Today’s car is a 1958 BMW 507 Series II Roadster owned by Sam Yagi. I saw this car at the Manhattan Beach Cars and Coffee held at The Point located in El Segundo, CA and it is held on the last Saturday of every month. It is finished in Feather White with a Red leather interior. It is powered by a 150 hp, 192.8 cu in, 3.9 liter, aluminum alloy OHV V8, with 2-2bbl Zenith 32NDIX Carburetors mated to a ZF 4-speed synchronized manual transmission with 3.70:1 rear axle gear ratio. Slowing this rare beauty down are Alfin drum brakes in all 4-corners. It has independent front suspension with dual A-arms and torsion bars and in the rear it has a live rear axle with torsion bars. The car has the original Becker Mexico radio and the original factory hardtop.
The BMW 507’s were produced between 1956 and 1960 with 252 units built. The MSRP range was from $9000.00 – $10,500.00. Sam said he bought this on for $7,000.00 and one recently sold for a cool $2,450,000.00. The published top speed was 124.3 mph and with a 0 to 60 time of 10.5 seconds. This is a beautiful example of luxury German sports cars in the postwar era. What a great car. You usually only get to see one at Concours d’Elegance events, but what a treat to see one at a local Cars and Coffee event. Thanks for riding along. Frank
