Today’s car is a 1957 DeSoto, FireFlite, Sportsman, 2 door hardtop owned by Mike Green. It is finished in two tone White and Black with a Black, White, and Blue interior. I saw this car at Caffein Cruisers Cars & Coffee in Torrance, CA. It is powered by a 345 cu in Hemi, V8, with a Edelbrock 4-bbl carburetor, producing 300 hp. Transferring that power to the rear wheels through a 3-speed push-button TorqueFlite automatic transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through 3.73:1 rear end. Helping slow this baby down is a dual master cylinder with vaccum power assist, disc brakes up front and drum brakes in the rear. The front suspension is torsion bar up front and coil-spring are in the rear suspension. The wheels are Wheel Smith spoke wheels and are a size larger on 15 inch rims.
The original MSRP was $3,614.00. The total number of 1957 De Soto’s produced was 117,514 of which 28,430 were Fireflites and only 7,217 were Sportsmans, 2 door hardtop. The over exaggerated features of this car are what delineate the style and boldness of what came out of Detroit the mid 1950s. This car brings a smile to my face every time I see it. This is a great car for car shows, and Cars and Coffee events, or just cruising around town. The uniqueness is sure to get your attention and draw a crowd. Thanks for riding along. Frank
