1957 Buick Century Estate Wagon Caballero

Last updated on September 2, 2024

Today’s car is a 1957 Buick Century Estate Wagon Caballero driven by Bryan Egan and owned by Victor Vert. I photographed this Caballero wagon at the Cruise At The Beach Classic Car Show, held at the Redondo Beach Marina, CA. The car is finished in a 2 tone combination Biscay Blue and Dover White with a medium blue and light blue Cordaveen interior. It is powered by a 349 hp, 6.0 liter, Holden LS2 V8 engine, with Sequential Port Fuel Injection (SFI), that is produced in Australia, mated to a six-speed GM 6L80-E automatic transmission with 3.07 rear axle. Slowing this beast down are Willwood disc brakes in all 4-corners. The independent front suspension consists of the new ball-joint front suspension, with ride stabilizer, and coil springs in front and rear. The 18″ Boyd Coddington wheels do look right at home here.

The Buick Century Estate Wagon Caballero were only build for 2 years from 1957-1958 with only 14,642 built. In 1957 a total number of 405,098 Buicks were produced, of those Qty 65,966 were Century’s, and of those 10,186 were Estate Wagon Caballeros. The MSRP was $3,831.00 The published top speed of 118 MPH with a 0-60 mph time of 11.1 seconds.

Buick was quick to incorporate the pillar-less four-door design, but took it one step further by incorporating it into their Estate station wagon. This is a beautiful example of what a subtle RestoMod should look like. What a great car to take to GM / Buick shows, local car shows, Cars and Coffee events or just out for leisurely comfortable cruise. Thank you for riding along. Frank

Front grill noted for its electric shaver look.
Note the Holden Lion emblem on the engine cover, maybe a Buick Wildcat would be more fitting?
