Today’s car is a 1955 MG TF-1500 Roadster finished in MG Red with an Autumn Red interior and Biscuit top. I saw this beauty yesterday afternoon. It had been delivered only two hours before my arrival. The proud owners are our friends Ed (better known to us as “Fast Eddie”) and his wife Gita. I found them both in the garage admiring their new pride and joy. By the time I send this out, I bet Ed is already on his way to the Automobile Club/DMV.
For those who do not know, MG stands for Morris Garages. The original list price of a 1955 TF-1500 was $1,995.00. Power comes from a 1,466cc (1.5L) inline-four producing 63 horsepower and transferring that power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. Fast Eddie later fitted the car with a 5-speed manual gearbox, a popular upgrade that makes these early MGs far more drivable in modern Los Angeles traffic. Only 3,400 were built for 1955. Period tests recorded 0–60 mph in 15.3 seconds and a top speed of 85 mph.
Great car!!! Congratulations to Ed and Gita.
Thanks for riding along.
Frank
