Today’s car is a 1955 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe St. Regis 2 door hardtop coupe and is owned by Jim Huizdos. It is finished in a two-tone color combination of Tango Red and Platinum with Red and White leather interior. It is powered by 250 hp, 331 cu in, Hemi, V8 with a Edelbrock 4-bbl carburetor. It transfers that power through a 2-speed Powerflite automatic transmission to the rear end with a 3.36:1 gear ratio. Slowing it down were power drum brakes. Jim upgraded the power brake system and added disk brakes up front. The front suspension is independent coil springs with Chryslers Oriflow shock absorbers. In the rear are parallel longitudinal semi-elliptical leaf springs with Oriflow shocks..
This is a highly optioned car that came with heater, 4 way electric front power seats, power windows, Music Master radio with Electro-Touch tuning, power antenna, left side outside rear view mirror, power steering, power brakes, windshield washer, custom exhaust pipe defector tips, wide white wall tires, and wire wheels. This is the first year that seat belts were offered as an $8.00 option.
The original MSRP was $3,690.00. There were 147,603 Chryslers manufactured in 1955 with 11,076 of them being New Yorker Deluxe 2-door St. Regis’s built. The published top speed was 111 mph with a 0-60 mph time of 11.1 seconds. The St. Regis was distinguished from the base New Yorker by the two-tone paint scheme, exclusive to the St. Regis, color-keyed two-tone steering wheel, full carpeting, and upgraded fabrics. This is a beautifully restored car that will show well at any car event. Thanks for riding along. Frank
