Today’s car is a 1950 Buick Special 2 door Jetback Deluxe Sedanet owned by Ed Gabaldon. I photographed this car at the 19th Annual Redondo Pier Rods, Rides, & Relics on the Pier Car Show held in Redondo Beach, CA. The car is finished in what looks like a later model year maroon with a grey striped cloth interior. It is powered by a 122 hp 248 cu in, Fireball straight 8 engine, with a single Rochester 2 bbl Carburetor mated to a 3-speed GM TH 350 automatic transmission with a Ford 9″ rear axle. Slowing this beauty down are 12″ cast brake drums with a step on parking brake. The front suspension is independent with coil springs, a ride stabilizer, and double-acting shock absorbers. Ed maintained the rear suspension with the Ford rear axle using torque free rear coil springs with double-acting end-to-end discharge type shock absorbers.
The total number of 1950 Buicks produced was 670,278, of those 337,929 were Special Series (40) of them 76,902 were Special 2 door Jetback Deluxe Sedanet. This car was built in South Gate Assembly Plant, CA. The MSRP was $1899.00. The published top speed of 83 MPH with a 0-60 mph time of 19.8 Seconds.
This is a beautifully restored sedan with a couple of mechanical updates. What a great car to take to GM car shows, local car shows, Cars & Coffee events, or just going out to dinner in style! Thank you for riding along. Frank
