Today’s truck is a 1947 MG TC Van. As far as I know there was only 1 of them ever built. It was built for marketing purposes and never was intended for production. This one spent most of its life in Southern California and was owned by a sales or marketing executive. When he pasted away he left it to the current owner and caretaker who help care for the car and expressed his passion for it. The only thing he changed was to move the seat back to accommodate his height. One more interesting fact, is that it was owned & built by Al Moss (Of Moss Motors) in Goleta, CA.
It is finished in a Warm Chocolate Brown and Cream with a Cream interior. Powered by a 76.3 cu in, 1.25 liter, in-line 4 cylinder with a 1 SU carburetor feeding the Shorrock blower producing better than 60 hp. It transfers that power through a four-speed manual transmission and delivering that power to the rear wheels through hypoid rear axle with 5.12:1 gear ratio. To slow it down it has hydraulic brakes with 9-inch drums all around. The front suspension is rigid axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs and in the rear is a live axel with semi-elliptic leaf springs. It rides on 4.50 X 19 inch tires mounted on 48 spoke wheels with knock-off hubs.
This is a 1 of 1 promotional vehicle and never was intend for production. Top speed is estimated at 77 mph and a 0-60 time of 22 seconds. I have seen this car at a few car shows and it was love at first sight. It is just so unique and cool. This is the kind of vehicle that can’t help but, draw attention. Thanks for riding along. Frank
