Todays car is a 1940 Ford Standard 2 door sedan. I saw this very clean original restoration at the Marina del Rey’s Cars and Coffee. It is finished in Lyon Blue with a Tan interior. It is powered by 221.0 cu in. 3.6 L. flat head V8 producing 85 hp and transferring that power through a 3 speed manual transmission with finger tip gearshift mounted on the steering column. This improve the comfort of the middle passenger in the front seat. Ford’s 3 on the tree was born. Delivering that power to the rear wheels through 3.54 t0 1 standard rear end gear ratio. To slow it down the new improved hydraulic brakes with 12 inch diameter brake drums. That is a 162 square inches of brake lining for those quick stops. There were many new features introduced in the 1940 ford. New controlled ventilation with addition of vent windows. The new instrument panel grouped for easy visibility with a new instrument a battery conditioning indicator. Ash trays at each end with a cigar lighter. Lockable glove box and dimming control for instrument lights. Seal beam headlights were added. A lot of stuff we take for granted over the years. The original MSRP was about 800 dollars and a gallon of gas was 18 cents. The total number of 1940 Fords produced was 541,900 of which 150,933 were Standard tudor sedans.
This is a very nice restoration and would be a pleasure to drive. Thanks for riding along. Frank
