Today’s truck is a restored 1937 Dodge MC 1/2 Ton Pickup truck and it is owned by Charlie Rothstein. I saw this truck at Caffeine Cruisers in Torrance, CA. It is finished in a two tone combination of beige with black fenders and a matching interior. It is powered by a 75 hp, 218.0 cu in, 3.6 Liter, L-head six-cylinder engine with a single barrel downdraft Carter carburetor. It is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. Helping slow this baby down are hydraulic drum brakes all around. The suspension is leaf springs at all four corners. Additional features include a single-wall pickup box with stake guides, chrome hubcaps, a tilt-forward windshield with a single drivers-side windshield wiper, a side-mount spare wheel, a ram hood ornament, chrome front and rear bumpers and a early 1970’s upgrade Panasonic, entertainment center, AM/FM transistor radio hanging from the rear view mirror.
The original MSRP was $540.00. Dodge produced approximatly 10,000 of them. Early Dodge trucks are rare today because they were farm trucks. They were driven until they dropped and then left in the fields to rot. This is a great truck and shows pride of ownership. It just brings a smile to your face. This truck will draw a crowd at any car show or any Cars and Coffee event. What a thrill it would be just to take it on a leisurely cruise up the coast and to enjoy the view. Thanks for riding along.
