Today’s car is a 1935 Delahaye Type 138/135 ‘Sport Coupe Des Alpes’ and It is finished in French Blue with Claret leather interior. I saw this car at the Manhattan Beach Cars & Coffee which is held at the Point in El Segundo, CA. Tom and Deb Kazamek are the owners of this beautifully restored vintage motor sport vehicle. It is powered by 3.23 liter, in line 6 cylinder, with 3 downdraft Solex 40 PAI carburettors producing 100 hp. Transferring that power to the rear wheels through a Wilson Pre-selector manual 4-speed transmission. Slowing this beauty down are large cable-operated drum brakes sitting behind the special Delahaye 70-spoke centre-lock wire wheels. The suspension is independent at the front, comprising a lower transverse leaf spring and upper wishbones, while the live rear axle is supported by semi-elliptic leaf springs.
Built for rallying, Tom and Deb have competed in three 1000 mile rallies with her. The 2011 North American Tribute to the Mille Miglia, the 2015 Mille Miglia in Italy, and the 2019 Colorado Grand. They have also won first in class at the 2012 Palos Verdes Concours when Delahaye was the featured marque. Tom and Deb are car enthusiast who enjoy driving and sharing their treasures.
A great car to see at Concours d’Elegance, but what a treat to see at a local Cars and Coffee. Thanks for riding along. Frank
