Todays car is a 1930 Model A 2 – Door Sedan. It is finished in Viper Red with a Black interior and Red stitching. It is owned by Mike Holmes. Mike bought the car in 1992 from a co-worker that had it in his backyard untouched for 20 yrs. So after 20 years of sitting in the back the co-workers wife told him he had to sell it. Mike became the proud owner of this 1930 Model A. Mike performed all the work on his car at his home except for the interior and the exhaust system. Mike started the build in 1992, He immediately removed the body from the frame and placed it on a body cart. Mike ordered a custom frame from California Custom Roadsters in Orange, CA. Mike put the build on hold and started a 2nd job and had little time to work on the car. When time allowed he would go to swap meets and picked up the needed parts. Mike took a class at a local school to learn how to do interiors. He complete the rear seat and the school cancelled the second class. So Mike’s interior instructor agreed to help Mike complete the interior at the instructors house. Mike retired and finished the car in 2010.
It is powered by a 350 cu in Chevrolet engine. Transferring that power through a 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission with overdrive. Delivering that power to the rear wheels through a 9 inch Lincoln Versailles rear end with 3.50 t0 1 gear ratio. The one big benefit of the Lincoln Versailles complete rear end is that it already had disc brakes. Helping slow this baby down are Disc brakes at all four corners. Mike chopped the top 2 inches. The grill shell is from a 1932 Ford. The original MSRP was about $495.00. The total number of 1930 Ford Model A’s produced was 1,140,710 of which 376,271 were 2 door sedans.
This is a very well done car that Mike can take the credit and pride for his labors. What a great car to take car shows, Cars and Coffee events, or just hanging with his like minded friend. Thanks for riding along. Frank
